The Neighbour to Neighbour Toolkit

The Neighbour to Neighbour Toolkit is a project created for the Waterloo Region to help citizens gain the knowledge they require to help build their community. It is a collection of stories, tips, tools and resources supplied by residents of the Waterloo Region based on their own personal experiences. The Toolkit is made up of two parts – the Toolkit and the website.

The Toolkit

The Neighbour to Neighbour box has been designed as a partner piece with the website to give neighbourhood associations and citizens alike the opportunity to create their own personal toolbox based on their needs. It contains dividers similar to the sections found on the website that make organizing your many collected stories and tips simple and easy. The toolkit comes stocked with the basic tools and tips and has plenty of room for you to expand your toolkit with more of your own stories, tools and tips – either from our website or from your own resources.

The Website

The Neighbour to Neighbour website is where we house all of our stories, tips and tools. You can look for submissions on many different subjects. In order to help make this search easier for you, we have organized the site into three sections: Neighbour to Neighbour Tools, Stories and Tips, and Sponsorship & Links. The Tools and Stories sections are then broken down into three categories: Individual, Community and Association/Organization. The individual stories, tips and tools show how one person can make a difference, while Community and Association/Organization stories, tips and tools help you plan with larger groups. And if you are looking for something in particular, you can use the handy search function provided. You are then able to print any story, tip or tool you find useful and add it to your own toolkit. For a more indepth description of the categories, click here.

Submitting Your own Stories, Tools and Tips

The unique part about this Toolkit is that we give you the opportunity to share your own personal experiences with us and allow others to take your story, tip or tool and add it to their toolkit. On each page there is a link on the left side bar that allows you to submit your story to our webmaster, who will then post it on our site for others to view. Please keep in mind that each story much be approved by the webmaster before it goes live on the website.

Printing your Toolkit Stories

Each story, tip, or tool has a printable page link at the bottom that will allow you to print the toolkit version. It will print well in either colour or black and white. We suggest that you set your printer to print in landscape format, or horizontally so that it fits into the box properly (this option can be found in your print settings panel), but it will still print if your printer is set to portrait or vertical format.
